Abe and Esther’s Unexpected Anniversary Gift

To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Abe and Esther boarded a flight bound for Australia, ready for two relaxing weeks away from home.

Midway through the journey, a crackle echoed from the cabin speakers. The pilot’s voice followed, tense but composed:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I regret to inform you that we’ve lost all engine power. We’ll be making an emergency landing. Fortunately, I’ve spotted an unknown island below. With luck, we’ll touch down on the beach. But be warned—we may never be located again and could end up living there permanently.”

With nerves of steel and a lot of skill, the pilots managed to land the plane safely on the sandy shore.

Not long after, as they sat catching their breath under a palm tree, Abe turned to Esther.

“Sweetheart,” he asked, “did we ever send in that $5,000 donation check to PBS?”

Esther shook her head, still pale. “No, I didn’t get around to it.”

Abe blinked, then added, “What about our American Express bill? Is it paid?”

“Oh no,” Esther sighed. “I forgot to mail it.”

“One more thing,” Abe said, leaning in. “Did you take care of our Visa and MasterCard payments?”

Esther cringed. “I missed those, too.”

Without a word, Abe leaned over and gave her the most passionate kiss he’d given her in five decades.

Surprised, Esther pulled back and asked, “What was that for?”

Abe beamed and said, “Don’t worry… they’re definitely going to come looking for us.”
