Grandma is eighty-eight years young and still insists on driving herself everywhere. The other day she sent a letter to her granddaughter that went like this:

Dear Granddaughter,
You won’t believe what kind of day I had!
That morning, I stopped at the little Christian bookstore downtown and spotted the cutest bumper sticker:
“Honk if you love Jesus.”
Since I had just come straight from choir practice and a fiery prayer meeting, I was feeling extra cheerful. So of course, I bought it and stuck it proudly on my car.
Best choice ever.
Later on, I was sitting at a red light, happily daydreaming about God’s blessings, when the light quietly turned green. I didn’t even notice. But thank heavens, the driver behind me did! He gave a loud HONK.

Well, I thought, Bless his soul—another Jesus fan!
Then he really got into it—honking nonstop like Gabriel blowing his trumpet—and before long, every car at the intersection joined in! Horns blared everywhere. It sounded like a rolling revival meeting!
The man behind me even leaned out his window yelling, “For heaven’s sake, GO! GO! GO! JESUS CHRIST—GOOO!”
What devotion! What enthusiasm!
Naturally, I rolled my window down too, waved at everybody with a big smile, and even tapped my own horn a few times to spread the joy.
One man must’ve been from Florida, because I clearly heard him shouting something about a beach in the sunshine. Another fellow stuck his hand out the window waving in an unusual way—just his middle finger pointing up. I wasn’t sure what it meant, so I asked my grandson later. He told me it was probably some Hawaiian good-luck gesture.

Well, I’ve never met anyone from Hawaii before, so I leaned right out and gave him the same good-luck sign back. Again and again. My grandson laughed so hard he nearly rolled out of the seat! I figured he was just filled with the Spirit too.
A few folks were so stirred up that they even got out of their cars and started walking toward me. I assumed they wanted to pray together or maybe ask which church I go to.
But just then, I noticed the light had changed. So I gave everyone one more smile, one more Hawaiian good-luck sign, and finally drove on through.
Funny enough, out of all those cars, mine was the only one that actually made it through the intersection before the light switched back to red. I felt a little sorry for the rest of them still waiting—but oh, what fellowship we shared in that beautiful moment.
Praise the Lord for such enthusiastic, joyful people!
Until next time,
Love, Grandma ❤️😊
