At the beginning of the school year, a brand-new teacher received some advice from the veteran staff:

“Whatever you do, never make a bet with Little Johnny—unless you’re absolutely sure you’ll win.”

She laughed, assuming it was just one of those exaggerated school legends passed down to scare new teachers.

A few weeks later, during a quiet afternoon lesson, Johnny raised his hand with a confident smirk.

“Miss,” he said brightly, “I bet you fifty dollars I can guess what color socks you’re wearing.”

The classroom went still. The teacher, caught off guard but staying composed, smiled and replied,
“Alright, Johnny. Let’s not cause a scene—come see me after class and we’ll settle this properly.”

During the break, the teacher had an idea. She decided to remove her socks entirely and place them in her purse. She figured this was the perfect opportunity to teach Johnny a valuable lesson about making assumptions—and losing bets.

After school, with the classroom empty, Johnny walked up to her desk.

“Okay,” he said confidently. “My guess is… blue.”

The teacher grinned and shook her head. “Wrong. I’m not wearing any socks at all!”

A bit puzzled but amused, the teacher followed Johnny out to the parking lot.

“Hey Dad, I owe you fifty bucks!”

His father blinked in surprise, looked at the teacher, then turned to Johnny and said,
“Are you kidding me?! You told me there’s no way you’d see your teacher without socks today—and I bet you a hundred you wouldn’t!”
