On a long flight from Los Angeles to New York, a well-dressed attorney found himself seated beside a blonde woman who looked absolutely exhausted.
Trying to strike up conversation, he turned to her and said with a grin,
“Care to play a fun little game to pass the time?”

She gave a polite smile and shook her head.
“No thanks. I’m hoping to catch some sleep,” she replied, turning toward the window and closing her eyes.
Unfazed, the lawyer continued,
“It’s super simple and kind of fun. I’ll ask you a question, and if you don’t know the answer, you give me five dollars. Then you ask me one, and if I can’t answer, I’ll give you five bucks. What do you say?”
Still uninterested, she declined again.
Now a little annoyed but determined, the lawyer sweetened the deal.
“Okay, how about this: if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5, but if I don’t know, I’ll give you $500.”

That got her attention. Figuring it was worth playing just to get him off her back—and perhaps make a quick buck—she agreed.
The lawyer went first.
“What’s the exact distance between Earth and the Moon?”
Without a word, the blonde calmly reached into her handbag, pulled out a five-dollar bill, and handed it to him.
“Alright,” she said, “my turn.”
She looked at him and asked,
“What climbs a hill with three legs and comes back down with four?”

The lawyer blinked. He hadn’t heard that one before.
He opened his laptop, searched through encyclopedias, physics databases, and even used the in-flight Wi-Fi to scan every website he could think of. He messaged colleagues, posted on forums, and even emailed a trivia expert. Nothing.
An hour passed. Frustrated and stumped, he finally handed her $500.
She quietly accepted it and went right back to sleep without another word.
The lawyer, now both confused and intrigued, tapped her shoulder.
“Wait! You can’t just leave it at that. What’s the answer?”
Without opening her eyes, she reached into her purse, handed him a five-dollar bill, and rolled back over.
