It was a bright, peaceful Sunday morning—the kind where the sunlight gently filters through the kitchen curtains and birds chirp like a live concert in the garden. Inside a cozy little house at the end of the street, an older woman was starting her day with her usual routine. She had just finished washing the breakfast dishes and was halfway through reorganizing the spice rack when the doorbell rang.

Surprised—but pleased—he followed her into the home and sat down at the round kitchen table, where she poured him a steaming mug. She set it in front of him and sat across with her own cup, folding her hands like a gracious host.

“So, young man, what would you like to talk about?”

There was a pause.

He blinked.

He swallowed hard.

He looked like someone who had just been called on in class without having read the chapter.

“Well, uh…” he stammered, clearly caught off guard. “To tell you the truth… I’m not really sure. This is the first time anyone’s actually invited me in.”

The woman burst into laughter, nearly spilling her coffee. The moment was so unexpected and so genuine, it left both of them chuckling.

They ended up chatting anyway—about life, the weather, the garden, and oddly enough, how intimidating door-to-door visits can be. And while no scripture was read that day, a good cup of coffee and a shared laugh turned an awkward encounter into a moment neither of them would forget.
