It was a regular weekday morning, and the sun had just started to filter through the blinds of a cozy suburban home. Inside the bathroom, a married couple was going through their usual routine—shaving, brushing, and mentally preparing for the long day ahead.

The husband, feeling unusually chipper, glanced over at his wife. Maybe it was the morning light, maybe it was the way her hair was slightly tousled, or maybe it was just one of those spontaneous sparks that occasionally light up after years of marriage.

With a wide grin and a gleam in his eye, he said teasingly, “I don’t know what it is about you this morning, but you’ve got me totally distracted. I think I need a little more than coffee to start my day.”

Taking a deep breath, she muttered, “I’ll be fine… just as soon as I figure out how to detach myself from this doorknob that’s currently poking me in a very unfortunate spot.”

For a split second, the room went quiet.

Then they both burst out laughing.

The husband, realizing what had happened, clutched his side from laughing too hard. “Well,” he said between chuckles, “guess that door’s not rated for romantic surprises.”

From that day on, every time someone mentioned “getting a handle on things,” they’d exchange a knowing glance—and probably laugh all over again.
