Diamond Crystal Salt Company argued that the drilling operation had penetrated the mine and caused the flooding.

Texaco disputed aspects of the responsibility and the circumstances surrounding the drilling location.

Eventually, Diamond Crystal reached a settlement with Texaco and Wilson Brothers.
